Mayor's Message On behalf of the Municipality of Arran-Elderslie, I am pleased to welcome you to our website and to our community. On December 1st, I was elected Warden for the County of Bruce. This position is a great honour for me and I will do my best in the next year to fulfill my duties as County Warden. I am very proud to be following in my father's, W.P. Oswald, footsteps, who was Warden in 1954. I will be attending many functions in the area to extend greetings on behalf of the County and meet with our local residents and visitors to the area. Located in Central Bruce County, Arran-Elderslie includes the communities of Paisley, Tara, and Chesley. Interests and opportunities are diverse, ranging from agricultural to arts, historical to commercial. Small town living contributes to the high quality of life, even as businesses continue to start up and expand within our boundaries. We, as a Council, are very proud of the many businesses, facilities, and amenities available to us. If you are looking to start a new business, move your family to a nice community, or for a great place to retire, we think we have it all. Community centres and arenas, curling clubs, high school, public schools, medical clinic, hospital, banks and libraries provide the basic services we all need. Our 2005 projects included a 17-kilometre 12" trunk watermain from Chesley to Paisley and a new water treatment plant in Chesley which will serve both Paisley and Chesley. The Bluewater District School Board is building a new administration office on the Chesley site in 2006. Durham Furniture, with its 350,000 square feet factory, is our biggest employer in the area, specializing in bedroom suites. And for those who are looking for something to do, either in your spare time or while visiting the area, we offer four season's attractions with our campgrounds along the waterways, trailer parks, great fishing, snowmobiling, canoeing, Bed and Breakfast accommodations, theatre groups and many unique and specialty businesses--yours to explore and enjoy, rain or shine, winter and summer. I hope you'll take a few moments to browse through our site and learn more about the exciting events and great services we have to offer. Better yet, stop by for a visit and experience some of our small town hospitality. Ron Oswald Mayor |
