RABIES

Message from:     Grey Bruce Health Unit

When a human is exposed to a rabid animal, they must receive rabies immunization or they will die.

Most human exposure is from contact with pets or farm animals that get rabies from contact with a wild animal.

In order to prevent this type of human exposure, it is legislated that all cats, dogs,

and riding horses in Grey and Bruce Counties must have up-to-date vaccinations.

Public Health investigates all reports of human exposure and provides rabies vaccine to the ordering physician.

Since the process is very expensive and animal owners are liable for their animals,

there is a fine of $105.00 for each unvaccinated pet.
