Cemeteries Garbage Landfill
Recycling Water/Sewer Department  

Vernon Weppler is the Works Manager, responsible for three road crews operating from shops in Elderslie, Paisley & Tara, the Water/Sewer Division, two landfills in Arran and Chesley, garbage and recyclables collection, three cemeteries in Tara, Chesley & Paisley.

Roadwork includes winter/summer maintenance, storm drains, sweeping, crossing guards, street lights, sidewalks, parks, bridges, culverts, resurfacing, line painting, grading, dust control, signs, vehicles, etc

Garbage Pickup (weekly):
 
 Chesley, Paisley and Elderslie:  Thursday
 Tara & Arran:  Friday
 
Place garbage containers and blue boxes at the curbside before 7:00 a.m. on the day of pickup.
Blue box pickup is every other week. To find out more about the Blue Box Program click here
Maximum 2 garbage containers per week from all domestic premises.
Bag tags are required for each additional container at a cost of $3.00 each.
 
Garbage Bag - manufactured for the use of garbage disposal having a minimum size of 66cmX92cm (26"X36") and a maximum size of 89cmX127cm (35"X50")
Garbage Container - a Garbage Bag or rigid plastic or metal pail with a waterproof lid. Maximum height and width of 76cmX46cm (30"X18"), a minimum height and width of 45cmX30cm (18"X12"), not smaller at the top than at the bottom.
To reduce the amount of garbage going into our landfills, the Municipal Office sells extra recycling "Blue Boxes" for $6.50.
Residents are reminded that there is a compost pile located in Paisley and both landfill sites. No other material is to be dropped off there.

Landfills

Chesley Landfill Site:  230 4th St SW
Open Thursdays, 8 am - 3 pm, Saturdays, 8 am - noon

Arran Landfill Site:   657 Sideroad 20
Open 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month, 8 am - 12:00 pm
(Only clean burnables, tires, brush and metal will be accepted)

Residents are reminded that there is a COMPOST PILE located in Paisley and both landfill sites.
NO OTHER MATERIAL IS TO BE DROPPED OFF THERE.


2010 LANDFILL TIPPING FEES

Notes: Demolition material must be separated between non-burnable and burnable.
  • Compost material brought into the landfill bagged must be in a clear bag to avoid paying a tag fee.
  • All compost containers, including bags, are to be emptied and removed from the compost site.
  • Non-burnable demolition material includes shingles, cement, etc.
  • Burnable demolition material includes tree stumps, plaster and lathe, ashes, etc.
  • Clean burnables include tree limbs, clean wood (no paint, stain, varnish, etc).
  • Hazardous waste (contact the County) will not be accepted.
  • Used oil will not be accepted at any landfill site.
  • Corrugated cardboard will not be accepted at any landfill site. Cardboard recycling bins are located in Chesley, Paisley, and Tara.
