Chief Building Official & Property Standards Officer

Craig Johnston is the Chief Building Official (CBO)

and

Property Standards Officer (PSO)

The CBO is responsible for the duties set out in the

Ontario Building Code Act

and the Ontario Building Code

CBO duties include: 

• receive and process all building permit applications review construction plans

• issue building and demolition permits

• inspect all stages of building as required by the Code

• issue orders to comply or stop work orders when Ontario's building standards are not met

• give final approval to construction projects

• prepare regular statistical data for Stats Canada forward building information to the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation

• report to Arran-Elderslie Council on local building statistics

PSO duties include:

• receive and verify written signed property standards complaints

• inspect properties

• consult with property owners to comply with the local Property Standards By-law

• issue Property Standards Order to Comply when no voluntary compliance

• follow-up inspections to verify compliance
